After numerous brotherhood family nights hosted in the homes of brothers Tasheen Stallings, Eric Hollins, Kevin Hollins, Jeff Hebron, and Shaggy Flores, these brothers agreed that the void of no active chapter in Southern Maryland required correction. In early 2020, during the beginning of the Covid pandemic, brothers in the Waldorf and Accokeek areas began recruiting local members with the vision and drive to create a new chapter in Southern Maryland.

Affectionately known as “The Hydra,” the chapter received the nickname due to its high number of former chapter polari and regional and nationally involved leaders who were either charter or current members. From its inception, the chapter functions under the mantle that should one leader ever retire from service, another is there to rise to the position like the greek hydra mythology.

That phrase is heard time and time again within the Brotherhood of Iota Phi Theta and it is one of our rallying points. Although it is slightly outdated, as Iota Phi Theta has moved away from “pledging” to a “Brotherhood Intake Process”, the spirit is still the same. Quite simply, the process you undergo before becoming a Brother is secondary to the responsibility you accept once you become a Brother.
