Meet the Brothers
a message from our 23rd international grand polaris
sean housen

When I crossed over into this great Brotherhood in 1991 in the Beta Nu Chapter at Northern Illinois University, the idea of one day serving as the leader of this fraternity was not even a thought in my mind. Now, 30 years later I have the distinct honor of serving as the 23rd International Grand Polaris of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. I am humbled, always ready; excited, and proudly prepared.

Under my administration, we always strive to be ONE IOTA – united in purpose, vision, and focus, and working daily to live up to the lofty standards set by our Honorable Founders. ‘It takes a Man’ is more than a motto. It speaks to the mature representation of fraternity life that is Iota. Brothers, we are built for this moment and times like these. Iota Phi Theta has a glorious past and an even more promising future. As the elected leader of this fraternity, it is always my intent to ‘Be that Man’ every day, and serve the Brotherhood in a responsible and respectful manner.

THE IMPACT OF OUR CHAPTERS:
When the community sees Charcoal Brown and Gilded Gold, they know it represents a fraternity that embraces community service, civic engagement, leadership, and academic excellence. There is no question as to the value we bring to our families, communities, and each other in fraternal brotherhood. This is not a part-time commitment on our part. Iota is a way of life.

Our Delta Beta Omega Alumni Chapter brothers represent the best of our fraternity in the Southern Maryland area and we proudly support them in their endeavors to spread the IOTA brand in Charles County.
OW! OW!
REGIONAL IOTA
The MIGHTY Eastern Region (er) of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc

The Eastern Region of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. was created in a re-organization of two other regions, the Mid-Atlantic region (PA, DE, MD, D.C.) and the Southeast region (VA, NC, and SC)

Initially, DE, MD, D.C., VA, and NC joined the newly created Eastern Region in 2003. In spring of 2004, the newly formed Republic of Korea Alumni Colony (chartered by brothers from Alpha Omicron Omega Alumni Chapter) now known as Alpha Rho Omega Alumni Chapter also joined the Eastern Region.

With the combination of these two regions into the Eastern Region and the addition of the Republic of Korea, the region became one of the most historic as it is comprised of many of the first single-letter chapters of IOTA. With the newly crowned Iota East “Leadership All-stars” guiding the region into new frontiers, the region is fast metamorphosing into one of the most powerful and respected regions in the Fraternity.

In 2015 at the 35th International Conclave in Memphis TN, the Eastern Region became the Region of the Year, alongside with housing the Alumni Chapter of the Year on the National Scale. Currently the Eastern Region, and its members, are working hard to continue being the benchmark for the whole fraternity.

…BUILDING A TRADITION, NOT RESTING UPON ONE…Believe in the Shield!!!

REGIONAL POLARIS
A message from our Mighty Eastern Region Polaris:
STEVE OKOBA

Brother Stephen Okoba is the 6th Eastern Region Polaris and a Life Member of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. He is currently a member of the Beta Alpha Omega (BAO) chapter in Northern Virginia, and gained membership in Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, crossing in the Spring of 2008 at ETA chapter (VSU).

Over the years, Bro. Okoba has served on multiple leadership capacities on the chapter, state, regional, and national levels. In every position he has held, success seems to be part of his legacy as he has helped grow the membership base, reactivate inactive chapters, and manage the chartering of multiple branches of Iota throughout the Eastern Region.

Professionally, Steve is a Senior Program Manager at Medidata Solutions, a subsidiary of Dassault Systèmes in New York City, NY.

A graduate of Virginia State University, he studied Computer Engineering and later acquired his degree in Logistics Engineering Technology. Brother Okoba started 112 Alliance LLC in 2016, where he has since managed multiple implementation and consulting projects, helped expand many local small businesses, and extended his outreach across numerous states. In 2023, 112 Alliance LLC acquired its first sizeable real estate project, focusing on investing and developing real estate in low and median-income cities.

The Importance of DbO to MER:

In January 2021, the Eastern Region expanded in Southern Maryland by adding the Delta Beta Omega chapter in Charles County, MD. The chapter comprises members in politics, education, hospitality, non-profit, c-suite executives, entrepreneurs, and brand ambassadors, just to name a few.

In the years since the chartering, the Delta Beta Omega chapter has immensely raised the standard of how an Alumni Chapter should be in the Region. Their professionalism and experience within the Fraternity and in their professional lives have added to the overall impact of the Eastern Region across the State of Maryland, Northern Virginia, and Washington DC.

As they are known, the Charles County Centaurs continue to expand their reach into other areas by collaborating and leading area chapters in staying true to the stars. They constantly show what it means to “Build a Tradition, Not Rest Upon One.” This impact helped the Eastern Region be awarded the Region of the Year during the 38th Biennial International Conclave in 2021.
