About iota phi theta fraternity, inc.

LOCAL MEMBERSHIP
Candidates for membership in Iota Phi Theta Fraternity must apply to a chapter in the region where they reside, based upon the terms and conditions outlined in the Fraternity’s membership intake and development process. questions & Answers
01.
chapter eligibility?
Is it possible for me to become a member of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity if I attend an accredited four year college or university that does not have a Chapter?

Yes. If a nearby graduate chapter in your college community is willing to sponsor you, they can recommend you to the Regional Polaris for membership. We recommend you inquire and attend a graduate or local chapter informational to learn more about IOTA. Please Use the Chapter Locator to identify nearby graduate chapters and contacts.

02.
chartering process?
What is the process of chartering an Iota Phi Theta Fraternity chapter on my campus if none exist in my area? How do I start a new chapter or find local brothers?

Contact the IOTA State Director and the IOTA Regional Polaris for information concerning the possibility of chartering a chapter on your campus. You can use the national Contact Form to assist you in this venture. There are certain requirements that must be met before trying to start a new chapter in your area. IOTA is an organization in greek name only, not in greek language, customs, or religion.

03.
nphc eligibility

If that Fraternity belongs to the National Pan-Hellenic Council (Divine Nine, BGLO) or National Pan Hellenic Conference, you are ineligible for membership with Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Incorporated. Individuals who falsify their applications will have their membership revoked and will be expelled from the Fraternity. You can be a MASON, AEAONMS (NOBLE), ODDFELLOW (IOOF or GUOOF), or NALFO affiliated fraternal organization and still be eligible for dual membership.

BROTHERHOOD
“It only takes a few weeks to pledge but it takes a lifetime to be a Brother!”

That phrase is heard time and time again within the Brotherhood of Iota Phi Theta and it is one of our rallying points. Although it is slightly outdated, as Iota Phi Theta has moved away from “pledging” to a “Brotherhood Intake Process”, the spirit is still the same. Quite simply, the process you undergo before becoming a Brother is secondary to the responsibility you accept once you become a Brother.

Iota Phi Theta is more than a Fraternity, it is a concept … a way of life. By joining Iota Phi Theta, you are agreeing to always strive for excellence in all facets of your life – academically, professionally, and personally. Furthermore, you are committing to consistently strive to be the best despite any obstacles.
